John O'Driscoll

I was born in Sydney but did not live here until I was 17

I started out in the squats in Woolloomooloo in the late eighties. I lived at the Gunnery on Cowper Wharf for 5 years or so. We had this great building with theatres including an old naval gunnery simulation chamber("the Dome", a big gallery and this great location between the Cross, the Navy and Art Gallery of NSW.

Having this hot venue and studio with musicians performers artists we could try out a lot of shows, I learnt that artists achieve more together. A whole school and style of artists will succeed or fail together. Or maybe fail apart.

By collaborating we pool our energy and our imaginations, through feedback of showing, playing, performing you learn fast

In thr years since I've done a lot of shows, always looking for that sense of artist community.  I publish my work on the netI paint and draw portraits, landscapes cartoons and other compositions.. In 2013-4 I painted the clients and volunteers of Newtown Mission in the Newtown Last Supper, a great experience, and a way of celebrating the Newtown street community.

I also publish political phantasmagoria (though they hardly match the real thing) on my political geometry blog and work in progress here

Thanks to Rough Edges for allowing us to put on this show, to Penny and Wayne and to all the volunteers at and especially Grace and Tamara who have done great work in helping to put the show on, not to mention finding the artists and participating
